Colour Rendering Index (CRI)

The colour rendering index shows how cleanly light is produced and how well the luminaire displays colours as they are. The colour rendering index is on a scale from 0 to 100, with zero being no colour reproduction and 100 being perfect colour reproduction, sunlight being 100. A colour rendering index of 80-90 is considered good, above 90 is excellent.

The measurement result shown in the picture is excellent. Typically, the lowest CRI value is red R9, which is also good here at +60.

The RA index is similar to the CRI. RA measures colour using eight reference points, with an emphasis on blue lights and excluding red. CRI measures the repetition of all colours, fifteen in total, and also takes into account the red colour.

The general colour rendering index is 80-90. For places that require high colour rendering, the value can be between 90 and 100, such as hospitals, museums and galleries, and spaces for photography and graphic design.

The importance of colour rendering in the store

Good colour rendering has a big impact. It can highlight the products sold in stores, and distinguish what colour the products or furniture really are. Poor lighting also affects people's minds and behaviour. A poor colour rendering index shows colours as grey and dull, for example.

The higher the CRI, the better the luminaire reproduces the true colour tone.
